Plant Performers

Inspired by music streaming each sculpture essentially delivers small amounts of data from plants within the room giving them a mouthpiece. Similar to a jam band when the AMP is turned on, this sculpture comes to life as an electrode reads the plant’s status and communicates to the sculpture.

Each sound sculpture contains three components. Utilitarian designed housing for the AMP, raspberry-pi, and volume levels. Decibel levels of light will activate based on plants bio-emissions (currents coming from living things). These analog signals then bring elements to life highlighting our relationship with nature through audio technology.

How It Works

We start by hooking up electrodes or sensors to each plant species which then gives us their bio-emission. These sensors then feedback to Rasberry-pi computers that then lead to a custom mid-fader set to control volume levels. The technology then translates the actual impulses from the plants to output sound samples in real-time. These can be mixed by the user.

Elements such as physical touch and light affect the plant’s output as well. Pretty neat-o!
